Let go of fear!
Plutopia News Network is on the road this week. We haven’t encountered any Repbublicans, Democrats, fascists, socialists, Nazis, Communists, or extraterrestrial invaders… we’ve just seen ordinary people working, playing, eating, drinking, hanging out… laughing a lot. Any occasional evil stench emanated from our occasional forays into social media, but even there, even on Facebook, we’ve found humor, beauty, laughter and joy. Yesterday we wandered downtown Galveston, where we found music, a terrific parade, and lots of artificial snow.
The alternative to a politics of chaos and crazy isn’t a politics of reaction. It’s a commitment to love, laughter, and joy, a willingness to embrace other humans and meet them where they are. Honoring their humanity beyond whatever fucked up political fugue has seized them. Yes, terrible things are happening in the USA and the world right now, but those terrible things happen when we surrender our essential humanity and identify with those who would take power to serve their own ends. They do this by creating fear and divisive thinking. How miraculous would it be to let go of your fears and assume the best, not worst, about “the others.”
We’re not suggesting that you turn a blind eye to evil and destructive acts, or accept a politics of manipulation and deceit. You have to watch your back. And there are sociopaths in the world who know neither love nor fear, they’re all appetite and would readily harm you to get what they want. Just consider that much of what they do and say is a manipulation, an attempt to weaken you with fear. If you can manage your fear, you can find your strength. And as a book we once read had as its title, “Love is letting go of fear.”
“The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds.”
